Mandya: A high-speed road accident took two lives and left more than 20 passengers injured after a private bus collided with a highway signboard and overturned in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district.

The incident occurred near the Bellur toll gate along the busy route. The private sleeper/passenger bus was en route from Mangaluru to Bengaluru when the driver reportedly lost control due to excessive speed, crashing directly into a large highway signpost. The force of the collision caused the bus to flip onto its side across the roadway.

Victims and Rescue Operations

• Deceased: Kasturi Shanbhag (64), a resident of Bengaluru, and Ashok (25), who was working as the bus cleaner, died on the spot due to severe impact injuries.
• Injured: Over 20 commuters sustained injuries ranging from minor cuts to fractures. Local passersby and emergency responders rushed the injured to Bellur BGS Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Police Action

Officials from the Bellur Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alert to manage traffic and conduct preliminary investigations. A formal case has been registered at the Bellur Police Station, and further inquiries into the driver's actions and vehicle condition are underway.
