- Security forces killed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, and recovered his body along with war-like stores.
The joint operation, codenamed Korag, was launched by the Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF in the Korag area near Yousmarg on Tuesday, based on specific intelligence inputs about terrorist movement. When troops challenged suspicious movement, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire in which Moosa was neutralised. During a search the following morning in the general area of Palmaidan, security forces recovered his body along with war-like stores, and the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps confirmed the development in a statement. Moosa, also referred to as Fauji Moosa, was named as a key suspect in the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025, in which 26 people were killed. He was reportedly wanted for years in connection with multiple attacks on security forces across both sides of the Pir Panjal range, and had escaped an earlier encounter in the Yousmarg hills this month, in which his close associate Yasir, described as a Pakistani LeT operative, was killed on September 5. In April 2025, J&K Police had announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information on the identified Pahalgam attackers, naming a "Hashim Musa" among them. Security forces say the search operation for other possible threats in the area is continuing. These claims have not been independently verified.
