- Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, along with Cabinet colleagues and MLAs, staged a sit-in outside the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Bengaluru on Thursday, demanding an FIR over alleged "electoral fraud" during the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls.
Shivakumar held a nearly two-and-a-half-hour meeting with CEO V Anbukkumar before announcing the sit-in, saying he would remain outside the office until he was satisfied that voters were being protected. He submitted a memorandum alleging that pre-filled Form 7 applications were being used to seek bulk deletion of names of legitimate voters, particularly from minority communities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, with a large number of such objections reportedly filed in the final days of the claims and objections period, around September 22 to 24. He urged the CEO to order an immediate, impartial and time-bound investigation and to register FIRs against those involved. Congress Karnataka president B K Hariprasad and other party leaders joined the protest, while Minister Arshad Rizwan separately sought an immediate suspension of Form 7 applications, calling the pattern an "organised misuse." Former chief ministers have also weighed in on the broader SIR row in the state; Siddaramaiah has separately urged President Droupadi Murmu to remove CEC Gyanesh Kumar and order a criminal investigation. The protest adds to a string of controversies around voter-roll revision in Karnataka, including the earlier Aland constituency case in Kalaburagi, where a Special Investigation Team was formed after attempts were made to delete over 6,000 voters, of which only 24 deletions actually went through.
