Key Highlights
  • A 19-year-old first-year BCom student, Yogesh Papanna, was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of six, including a classmate, near his college in Bengaluru's Nagarabhavi after a dispute, with police forming a special team to track down the absconding accused.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm on Wednesday when Yogesh, a resident of Nagadevanahalli and a first-year BCom student at Mahesh PU College in Nagarabhavi, was allegedly called to the rear of the college building near Deepa Complex for a discussion. A quarrel broke out there between two groups over what police described as a trivial issue, and during the altercation, his classmate Bhuvan and five others allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon. The assailants fled the scene after the attack, and passersby alerted the police. Yogesh was rushed to a nearby private hospital but succumbed to his injuries; his body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem. Based on a complaint filed by Yogesh's father, Annapurneshwari Nagar police registered a case against Bhuvan and the five other accused, all of whom remain absconding as police continue their search. Officers said the exact motive for the attack is yet to be established, though initial investigation suggests it stemmed from a personal dispute between students who knew each other rather than involvement of outsiders. A special investigation team has been formed to track down and apprehend the suspects, and the incident briefly created tension in the Nagarabhavi area.
