Salmonella Recall: 600+ Bags Of Raw Dog Food Recalled In US — What Pet Owners Need To Know

More than 600 bags of raw dog food have been recalled in the US after an analysis by the Food and Drug Administration found salmonella contamination in the product. Connecticut-based Oma’s Pride announced the recall on August 12 for one lot of its Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe, after the FDA was alerted to a consumer complaint.

The company has since said the affected lot has been linked to three illnesses. The recall applies only to the specified lot of the product, while Oma’s Pride said no other products were affected.

Which Dog Food Has Been Recalled?

The recall covers Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe sold in 6-pound bags, containing twelve 8-ounce vacuum-sealed servings. Consumers can identify the affected product using SKU F-WOOFC-6, lot number BB012729 and UPC 8 7938400145 9.

The recalled food was produced on January 27, 2026, and carries a best-by date of January 27, 2029. It was distributed through retailers and wholesalers in Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Oma’s Pride also said the product was shipped directly to online customers. The company has urged consumers who have the recalled food to stop feeding it to their dogs and “safely dispose” of the product rather than attempting to use it.

The company has warned that people handling contaminated raw dog food can also potentially become infected with salmonella. Customers seeking information or refunds can contact Oma’s Pride at 1-800-678-OMAS or through the company’s customer service email.

Salmonella Symptoms In Dogs And Humans

Many dogs infected with salmonella may show no obvious symptoms. However, according to PetMD, affected animals can develop vomiting, fever and severe watery or bloody diarrhoea, with younger dogs and animals with weakened immune systems potentially facing greater risks.

Veterinarian Jamie Lovejoy noted that salmonella illness is normally uncommon in dogs but that the risk can increase when pets are fed raw or unprocessed meat. Raw chicken is among the potential sources of salmonella exposure in dogs.

In humans, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says symptoms can develop between six hours and six days after infection. Common symptoms include diarrhoea, fever, vomiting and stomach cramps.

People experiencing severe symptoms, including bloody diarrhoea, diarrhoea lasting more than two days, a fever above 102 degrees Fahrenheit, persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration, are advised to seek medical care. More serious salmonella infections can also lead to complications affecting the bloodstream, heart or joints.

Pet owners who believe their dog may have become ill after eating the recalled food should contact a veterinarian. Oma’s Pride had not immediately confirmed whether additional illnesses among pets or people had been linked to the recalled lot beyond the three illnesses already identified.
