Prosenjit Chatterjee mourned the death of veteran filmmaker Raja Sen at the age of 71. The National Award-winning director, known for his significant contribution to Bengali cinema through films, television and documentaries, passed away after battling multiple health complications. As the industry remembers the filmmaker’s remarkable body of work, Prosenjit took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute. The actor remembered Sen with respect and highlighted the lasting impact of his work on Bengali films. His post came as tributes poured in for the filmmaker, whose career included acclaimed projects such as Damu, Atmiyo Swajan, Desh, Debipaksha and Krishnakanter Will.

Taking to Instagram, Prosenjit Chatterjee shared a heartfelt tribute to Raja Sen. Remembering the filmmaker’s contribution to Bengali cinema, the actor wrote in Bengali, “The departure of a legend is always painful. His contribution to Bengali films is priceless to us.” He further remembered Sen with respect, addressing him as “Rajada.”

Prosenjit concluded his tribute by writing, “Your creations and memories will last forever.” His message comes as several members of the Bengali film industry remember Sen and celebrate his contribution to cinema.

Raja Sen dies at 71

Veteran filmmaker Raja Sen had reportedly been undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital after his health deteriorated. He had earlier been admitted to a private hospital following an injury to his lower back. His condition subsequently worsened due to complications involving his heart, lungs and kidneys. The filmmaker’s passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Bengali cinema, with his films and documentaries continuing to remain part of his enduring artistic legacy.

Raja Sen’s contribution to Bengali cinema

Raja Sen had a remarkable career spanning feature films, television and documentaries. He won three National Film Awards during his career. His feature film debut, Damu (1996), won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. He later won the National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare for Atmiyo Swajan.

Sen also directed acclaimed films including Desh, Debipaksha, Krishnakanter Will, Laboratory, Moubone Aaj, Colonel and Chakrabyuha. Beyond feature films, he directed documentaries on prominent personalities including Suchitra Mitra, Tapan Sinha, Sombhu Mitra and Subhas Mukhopadhyay. His documentary on Rabindra Sangeet exponent Suchitra Mitra earned him the National Film Award for Best Arts/Cultural Film, further cementing his legacy across different forms of filmmaking.
