Daring Twin ATM Heist in Hubballi: Masked Gang Uses Gas Cutters to Steal ₹14 Lakh
Hubballi: In a brazen overnight operation, a gang of unidentified miscreants targeted two Canara Bank ATMs in rural Hubballi taluk, making off with ₹14 lakh in cash. The serial robberies took place during the early hours in the neighbouring villages of Sulla and Byahatti, triggering widespread anxiety among local residents.
According to police sources, the culprits executed the heist with meticulous planning. Armed with gas cutters, the gang sliced open the outer shutters of both ATM kiosks before targeting the cash vending machines.
To destroy evidence and evade identification, the suspects smashed the installed CCTV cameras before cutting open the internal cash boxes.
Breakdown of the stolen amount:
Sulla Village ATM: ₹11 lakh
Byahatti Village ATM: ₹3 lakh
The simultaneous strikes in adjacent villages indicate the involvement of an organised criminal gang that likely surveyed the locations in advance.
Senior police officials swiftly arrived at both crime scenes along with forensic experts and a canine squad to gather clues and examine evidence.
A case has been registered at the local police station, and multiple teams have been formed to track down the gang and review footage from nearby road surveillance cameras.
