'Lizard-Like Object' Found In Birthday Cake; 7 Kids Among 11 Who Fell Sick In Maharashtra's Nalasopara

In a shocking incident in Maharashtra's Nalasopara region, 11 people, including 7 children, fell ill after allegedly eating a cake, which had a "lizard-like object" allegedly found inside it.

The incident was reported from the Jijai Nagar area of Nalasopara. According to the family, the cake had been brought home for a function held the evening prior. Soon after cutting and eating it, several members of the family and their guests reportedly began feeling unwell, complaining of nausea, vomiting, headache, and pain in the stomach and chest.

It was then that the family allegedly noticed what appeared to be a lizard-like object inside the cake.

As symptoms worsened, all 11 affected individuals were rushed to Vijay Lakshmi Hospital in Nalasopara at around 8 pm. According to the hospital director, Dr. Vidya Sawant, the patients admitted included 7 children and 4 adults. Of these, three are currently under observation in the ICU, while the rest are being treated in the general ward.

Doctors have said that the condition of all the patients remains stable at this time.

However, the exact cause of the illness, and whether it was in fact linked to a contaminated cake, has not yet been officially confirmed. Food safety authorities are expected to investigate the matter and may collect samples from the cake to determine what caused the reaction.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken action against food businesses associated with major quick-commerce platforms after a statewide inspection campaign uncovered several violations involving food storage, hygiene and safety practices. The regulator suspended the licences of 14 food business establishments connected with Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart following inspections conducted across Maharashtra on August 13.

The drive covered 86 establishments involved in storing, selling and delivering food through online platforms, according to a PTI report. Apart from the licence suspensions, the FDA issued 60 improvement notices and directed one facility to stop operations temporarily.
