Kumar Bangarappa Calls Sting Operations a Political Tragedy, Urges Action on Drought

DAVANAGERE: Former Karnataka minister Kumar Bangarappa has criticised sting operations in Indian politics, describing them as a long-standing tragedy that can damage individual dignity and affect political families. Speaking to reporters in Davanagere, he said anyone found guilty of wrongdoing must face strict punishment and that justice and appropriate compensation should be provided to victims. He also called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior political leaders to address the issue promptly.

Calls for Investigation and Due Process

Bangarappa stressed the need for a detailed investigation into the controversy surrounding sting operations. However, he said he would refrain from making extensive comments because the matter was currently before the court. His remarks highlighted the importance of allowing the legal process to establish the facts and determine responsibility.

He maintained that cases involving alleged misconduct should be handled seriously, with accountability for those found responsible. At the same time, the outcome of any investigation must be determined through evidence and established legal procedures.

Drought Relief Should Be the Government’s Priority

Moving away from the political controversy, Bangarappa said the state’s drought situation required more urgent attention. He described the difficulties faced by villages struggling to secure drinking water and farmers watching their crops deteriorate because of insufficient rainfall.

He urged the Karnataka government to prepare and submit a comprehensive drought report to the Centre without delay. According to him, timely documentation of the situation would help the state seek the necessary relief funds and support for affected communities.

Concerns Over Falling Areca Nut and Coconut Prices

Bangarappa also expressed concern over declining prices for commercial crops, including areca nut and coconut. He warned that farmers could face prolonged financial difficulties if immediate measures were not taken to support agricultural incomes and improve water availability.

As part of the response, he called for faster implementation of river-interlinking projects and the desilting of rural lakes. Such measures, he said, could strengthen local water resources, improve water security and help protect agriculture against recurring drought conditions.

Bangarappa Reaffirms His Commitment to the BJP

Commenting on a photograph circulating on social media featuring BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and Karnataka BJP president B. Y. Vijayendra, Bangarappa welcomed signs of unity within the party. He said greater solidarity would benefit the organisation and noted that national leaders would take appropriate decisions on related matters.

He also dismissed speculation that he might leave the BJP, reaffirming his allegiance to the party.

Bangarappa’s remarks covered both the political controversy surrounding sting operations and the urgent need for drought relief, agricultural support and unity within the BJP.
