Kannadigas Should Win More Olympic Medals: KOA President Dr. K. Govindaraj

Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) President and MLC Dr. K. Govindaraj expressed his vision for state athletes to secure at least 10 medals in upcoming Olympic Games, asserting his readiness to secure all necessary government support for them.

Addressing the audience during the National Sports Day celebrations held at the Karnataka Olympic Bhavan on Saturday, Dr. Govindaraj highlighted his long-term goals for the state's sporting landscape.

"My dream is to see 15 to 20 athletes from Karnataka qualify for the Olympics, with Kannadigas bringing home at least 10 to 15 medals," he said.

He further emphasized the significance of National Sports Day, celebrated on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, stating that such observances play a vital role in fostering sportsmanship among the public.

Floral Tributes Paid to Major Dhyan Chand

As part of the celebrations, Dr. K. Govindaraj along with Commissioner of Information Department M.N. Anucheth offered floral tributes to the statue and portrait of Major Dhyan Chand.

The event witnessed the presence of KOA Secretary Anantharaju, alongside several former international athletes including hockey icons S.V. Sunil, Arjun Halappa, and Nikkin Thimmaiah (Nikkin Thimmaiah/Uttappa), as well as former sportspersons Uday Prabhu and G. Dileep.
