Food Safety Drive In Mysuru: 68 Kg Meat, 9 Kg Chicken And 4 Kg Mushrooms Seized During Hotel Inspections

Food safety officials conducted inspections across Mysuru city and district on Saturday, with authorities seizing expired meat, chicken and mushrooms from several hotels over alleged food safety violations.

During the inspections, officials seized 9 kg of chicken from Rio Meridian Hotel after finding that the meat had crossed its expiry date.

Inspections were also carried out at four other hotels as part of the food safety drive. At Grand Mercure Hotel, officials seized 68 kg of meat, while 4 kg of mushrooms were seized from Q Star Hotel.

The inspections come amid increased scrutiny of food safety and hygiene standards at hotels and eateries. Officials are checking food products for expiry dates, storage conditions and compliance with prescribed safety norms.

The seized food items were taken into custody during the inspections, and further action is expected based on the findings of the food safety authorities.

Food Safety Norms Violations

In Maharashtra, the State Food and Drug Administration has suspended the licences of 14 food business establishments linked to online platforms such as Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart after a state-wide inspection drive found safety and hygiene violations.

Meanwhile, a food safety team on Thursday found expired raw materials stored in the kitchen of a canteen at a reputed hospital in Bengaluru during an inspection. During the inspection, officials found expired raw materials such as rava, icing sugar, maida, and bakery products stored in containers, four packets of mixture and nine packs of pani puris inside the hospital kitchen.

In addition to this, a Karnataka Health Department Food Safety Division team on Wednesday resumed inspections of eateries and other establishments. According to officials, expired food products such as idli rava and coconut powder were found in the kitchen of the Arogya Soudha canteen on Magadi Road. Food products were also not stored in accordance with FSSAI guidelines.
