DU Warns Candidates Against Campaign Violations, Use Of Multiple Vehicles Ahead of DUSU Elections

The University of Delhi on Monday (August 17) cautioned candidates and student organisations participating in the DUSU elections against violations of campaign provisions and expressed concerns over the use of upscale vehicles for election-related activities, as reported by PTI.

As per the university orders, the Proctor's Office will provide all participants with authorised stickers for their vehicles, and those not bearing them would not be allowed inside the university campus or colleges. The proctor added that only one vehicle per candidate will be allowed for campaigning.

The heads-up was given at a meeting held at the university's Proctor's Office with the Chief Returning Officer, DUSU office-bearers, representatives of various student bodies and police officials, including those from the North District and Maurice Nagar police station.

DUSU Elections: Voting Scheduled for Sept 18; File Nominations By Sept 10

The DUSU elections are scheduled for September 18, with vote counting on September 19, 2026. The deadline to file nominations is set as September 10, with candidates allowed to withdraw names until 12 PM on September 11, 2026.

The Proctor stated that students did not adhere to the regulations outlined by the Delhi High Court and the Lyngdoh Committee, culminating in disorder on the university campus.

DU further voiced concerns about unpermitted parking by candidates along Chhatra Marg and University Road, leading to traffic bottlenecks on the campus. The directions restated that candidates must refrain from parking vehicles in a way that causes traffic congestion or on footpaths, as this inconveniences pedestrians.

Vehicles must be parked only in designated and authorised parking areas, it said.

The university also restricted candidates from using pamphlets or other printed material during the election campaign if such use could damage public property or litter public spaces. It also alerted the candidates against consumption of alcohol or any intoxicating substance in a vehicle or anywhere on the university campus, including parking areas and roadsides, as it may lead to cancellation of their nomination.

The Proctor stated that the nomination of any candidate found indulging in any of the prohibited activities would be cancelled. In serious circumstances, the entire election could be scrapped, it said.

DU had earlier said that the elections would be held in line with the DUSU Constitution and directions issued by courts, including the Supreme Court's Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and subsequent orders from the Delhi High Court and the National Green Tribunal.

DU reiterated that all candidates, student organisations and other stakeholders must stick to the guidelines issued by competent authorities and ensure that election-related activities are conducted in a peaceful, orderly and responsible manner.
