Complaint Against Sonia Gandhi For 'Intentional Obstruction' During Singing Of Vande Mataram

A complaint has been filed against Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi at the IP Estate Police Station in Delhi. The complaint has been filed by two lawyers, Kunak Vinayak and Shubh Sharma.

"I hereby submit this complaint seeking registration of an FIR and appropriate investigation into an incident which occurred during the Independence Day function organised at AICC Hq, Indira Bhawan, 9A Kotla Marg, New Delhi - 110002, on 15 August 2026, concerning the singing of the National Song, our pride 'Vande Mataram'," the complaint read.

"As reported in the media and as reflected in the video footage circulated in the public domain, after the initial portion of the National Song had been sung and its rendition continued, Sonia Gandhi appeared to make gestures and communicate with persons present in a manner which, prima facie, appeared to an objection to the continuation of the rendition," the complaint mentions.

"Therefore, the exact nature, intention and purpose of the gestures and conduct of Sonia Gandhi are matters which require investigation by the competent investigating agency," the complaint added.

Multiple Complaints Filed

Multiple complaints have been filed over the alleged disturbance during the singing of 'Vande Mataram' at the Congress Independence Day function at AICC Headquarters on August 15.

In another complaint, Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking a fair probe, including examination of the complete video and statements of those present, against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, alleging intentional obstruction during the rendition of 'Vande Mataram'.

What Is The Vande Mataram Row?

A massive controversy broke out on Saturday after a video went viral, showing Congress leader Sonia Gandhi speaking to Kharge while "Vande Mataram" was being played on the occasion of Independence Day. Sonia Gandhi and Kharge were later seen allegedly gesturing to stop playing the full version of the national song at the party's Independence Day celebrations at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders alleged that the two leaders attempted to halt the rendition of the national song midway. However, the Congress denied that there was any attempt to stop the full version of "Vande Mataram", saying SoniaGandhi was merely asking for a chair for Kharge.
