Amid Pralay Shooting, Ranveer Singh’s Father Agrees To Meet IMPPA Over Don 3 Film Exit

The controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 has taken another turn, with his father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani agreeing to meet the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA). The development comes more than two months after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) revoked its ‘ban’ on the actor over his alleged unceremonious exit from Farhan Akhtar’s much-awaited crime thriller. According to IMPPA president Abhay Sinha, Jagjit recently reached out to the association and expressed his willingness to participate in a meeting. His response comes as Ranveer has begun shooting for Pralay, his upcoming zombie apocalypse thriller and first production venture.

The latest development in the Don 3 controversy comes after Ranveer Singh’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani reached out to the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA). The film body has been attempting to address the dispute surrounding the actor’s exit from Farhan Akhtar’s film.

IMPPA president Abhay Sinha confirmed that Jagjit had communicated his willingness to attend a meeting. “We also received his advocate’s email stating that they would participate in the meeting whenever it was scheduled,” Sinha said.

The development marks a potential step forward in the matter, which has remained unresolved despite the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) revoking its ‘ban’ on Ranveer earlier this year.

Farhan Akhar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment officially announced Don 3 in August 2023, with Ranveer Singh stepping into the iconic role previously played by Shah Rukh Khan in the 2006 and 2011 films. The announcement came with a promo featuring Ranveer’s first look as the titular character. However, after his spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, opened to a strong response at the worldwide box office, Ranveer reportedly informed Excel Entertainment that he intended to exit Don 3. The development came just three weeks before a crew of more than 200 people was scheduled to travel overseas for the film’s first shooting schedule.

Farhan subsequently approached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which heard the producers’ side before seeking Ranveer’s response. Following what the film body described as a lack of cooperation from the actor’s side, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against him. The directive, however, was withdrawn eight days later after other industry bodies reportedly urged FWICE to reconsider the decision, citing the employment opportunities generated by a Ranveer Singh-led film.

Around a month later, Excel Entertainment also approached the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA), submitting the Don 3 contract and the promotional material featuring Ranveer. The production banner also reportedly presented IMPPA with a message from Ranveer expressing his excitement about starting Don 3. Ranveer, meanwhile, has maintained silence over the controversy from the outset. Even after FWICE issued its directive, his team released a statement indicating that the actor would continue to refrain from publicly explaining his decision and instead focus on his work. The latest development, with his father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani agreeing to attend an IMPPA meeting, could now bring a fresh turn to the long-running dispute.
